Neurology & Sleep Medicine sets itself apart from other sleep clinics by the level of involvement in patient care of our board-certified sleep specialist, Dr. Senthil Ramasamy.
Dr. Ramasamy is a board-certified specialist in the areas of sleep medicine and neurology. To achieve certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties, a physician must:
Dr. Ramasamy’s board certifications demonstrate that he has the knowledge and experience to expertly diagnose and treat all types of sleep disorders.
At most sleep clinics, specially trained technicians do most of the work—everything from preparing the patient for a diagnostic sleep study to monitoring the sleep study and evaluating the results. However, technicians do not have nearly the same level of expertise as a board-certified sleep doctor. Technicians’ evaluations may overlook anomalies or diagnostically significant information from the patient’s medical history that point to other medical conditions.
At Neurology & Sleep Medicine, Dr. Ramasamy personally evaluates the data collected in every diagnostic sleep study. He analyzes the brain wave patterns, respiratory rates, heart rates and electrical muscle activity to identify if a patient is experiencing insomnia, breathing disruptions (e.g. sleep apnea), heart arrhythmias, etc. Furthermore, he takes the time to meet with each patient to discuss the results and the next steps, which may include referrals to your primary care physician or other specialists for further tests or sleep disorder treatments, such as a sleep mask or prescription medication.
